Cycling is excellent for body and mind. It is good for the muscles and lungs, it helps against physical ailments and defects. Cycling is suitable for most people. There are many good reasons to get on a bike. In June, there is one more – MLU is taking part in the Academic Bicycle Challenge again in 2023!

What is the Academic Bicycle Challenge?

The Academic Bicycle Challenge (ABC) is an international bicycle competition between universities that aims to create awareness for healthy and environmentally friendly mobility by bicycle.

From 01.06. – 30.06.2023, MLU employees and students can take part in the ABC. During this month, they will pedal and record their daily bicycle journeys via app. The ABC counts all the kilometres covered and creates exciting rankings – by individual, team, academic discipline and university. Which discipline cycles the most diligently? How does MLU compare to other universities?

Attractive prizes will be awarded at the Long Night of Science on 7 July. The best ABC team of MLU can look forward to a healthy team breakfast. The focus is not only on learning something about healthy nutrition, but also on rewarding a great team performance with a team activity. The event will be coordinated with the winning team by the Occupational Health Management and supported by our health partner Techniker Krankenkasse.

So join us, get on your bike with us! It’s definitely worth it!

The Academic Bicycle Challenge at MLU is coordinated by the Sustainability Office, the Occupational Health Management, the Student Health Management and the University Sports Centre.

How can you participate?

Instructions for participation, suggestions for routes and joint actions in June can be found here.

We have accompanying actions again this year, for example the MLU Summer Party to kick off on June 1, to which we invite you on Children’s Day with your whole family. A colorful program around the bike, additionally with face painting and children’s circus, free bungee trampoline and of course a small first bike tour is waiting for you.

A special highlight at the Summer Party is the LIONLETICS obstacle course: Over a distance of about 2 km, the runners have to go over walls, through tires, sand and water. The team concept is crucial: The runners start in teams of 5. Mutual support is essential for the fastest time. An extra time slot is offered for children and families to try out: Lionletics Family Run.
Participation and cheering are strongly encouraged! Registration for the obstacle course by 30.05.2023 is absolutely necessary!

Other accompanying activities such as the TK-ConTrainer preparatory on May 30 and 31, a joint bicycle tour to Bad Lauchstädt and a mapathon through Halle are waiting for you and can be found here: Academic Bicycle Challenge at MLU.
