A total of 50 guest students had planned to come to Halle for the past summer semester. Twelve of them have actually enrolled and have attended their courses online. But no more than two students really made it to Halle, one of them being John Bermudez Vera. He is majoring in Food Technology and came here from the coastal city of Valencia in Spain. Originally John comes from Colombia. In this interview, he tells how things went for him in Halle in the time of COVID-19.
The Good About Normality
Terrorist attacks such as the one that took place on October 9th in Halle are shocking events: They are unnerving and generally challenge the state of coexistence in a community. Dealing with them is often rather difficult, but possible. What such events can trigger, but do not have to.

Faces of the Student Council
Settling in a new city can be difficult. Moving to an entirely new country, however, is even more challenging. Paula Klötzke is the consultant for international matters of MLU’s student council and helps international students at their arrival and during their stay in Halle. In the following interview she talks about a “number fetishism” that seems to have infected some universities, her work as consultant and the newly founded working group AK Internationales.
