postponed [TEO] Research valorization: entrepreneurship, patents and more (November 25, 2021 | online)

Written by

In this workshop, we inform doctoral students and postdocs of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg about entrepreneurship in science, patents as well as funding. The workshop is conducted by the Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office (TEO) of MLU.

Agenda

14:00 Welcome

14:10 The Entrepreneurial Mindset by Steffen Ahrens
Do you need to be born as an entrepreneur or is it possible to become one? Do you need an innovative idea or technology to be successful? Just two of a bunch of questions scientists ask themselves when thinking about becoming their own boss after their university life. The session will give an insight in what it means to become an entrepreneur, how an entrepreneurial mindset may look like and how to start to turn an idea into a successful business.

15:00 A glimpse into intellectual property rights by Dr. Robert Szczesny
Patents, utility models, designs, trademarks and copyright? This one hour workshop introduces you to some important types of intellectual property rights and will elucidate when to apply which right. You will also learn basics in patent research and get an outline of rights and obligations of employee inventors.

16:00 Innovation and start-up-funding by Moritz Bradler
Science-based innovations are highly relevant for future economic development of regions and states. Numerous funding schemes from regional, national and European public sources are accessible for researchers that aim to test basic research for market potential or to move ideas forward from lab to application, be it through collaboration with industry or spinning out a new company from university.

The session will give an overview on some common grant schemes and their typical terms and conditions. Participants are invited to Q&A about fundability of their specific ideas and to consult with MLU’s Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office anytime.
