[iDiv] Upcoming Symposium “Science: To Be Determined”
Science plays a central role in addressing today’s global challenges. Researchers are increasingly called upon to be innovative, collaborative, and socially engaged, while navigating structural and ethical challenges such as balancing productivity with integrity. These dynamics are amplified by rapid advances in AI and rising public skepticism toward science.
The focus of this upcoming symposium will be a topic central to researchers across disciplines: Why do we do what we do – and how can we do it better? The event provides a platform to promote open discussion on scientific integrity and to encourage critical reflection on how one can make research more reliable, transparent, and trustworthy.
The aims of this symposium: to establish a shared understanding of what responsible and rigorous science entails, fostering better collaboration and strengthening both individual and collective research practices. While rooted in biodiversity research, these questions resonate far beyond disciplinary boundaries — making this an event for all who care about the future of science.
