[iDiv] Summer School 24.-28.08.2026

Written by

The iDiv Summer School 2026 “Passion for Collecting – Collection-Based Research in Plant Ecology”, will take place in Leipzig this year and helps participants to learn how to use herbaria for ecological research, and to measure functional traits on living plants in the botanical garden and how to characterize different phenological stages.

Moreover, at the iDiv Summer School 2026 participants explore how these collections help us understand plant and ecosystem responses to land use and climate change. They will collect and analyse data in Leipzig and Jena, measure functional traits, study phenology, compare species worldwide, and present their results.

The focus of this course is on practical work by participants, followed by data analysis and presentation of results.

The summer school is aimed at MSc students and doctoral researchers. Participants from regions often underrepresented in science can apply for funding. Deadline for applications is the 31st of March 2026.

This year’s iDiv Summer School is led by iDiv members Solveig Franziska Bucher (SIP Jena), Sebastian Gebauer (SIP Jena), and Robert Rauschkolb (PhenObs).
