Our annual alumni meeting will take place on September 4, 2020. We will meet in Peißnitzhaus (Halle) from 5 p.m. The alumni meeting aims at the establishment of links and to foster the exchange between former and current iRTG members. Former members will talk on their career steps in industry or academia.

4th iRTG Workshop (November 2 – 3, 2020)

The iRTG workshop focuses on experimental and theoretical techniques to study synthetic polymers and biopolymer systems. The talks will be given by the doctoral students in chemistry, physics, biophysics, and related fields in the iRTG.

jDPG-Berufsvorbereitungsseminar in Berlin (29. November – 1. Dezember 2019)

Der Arbeitskreis junge DPG lädt herzlich alle interessierten Studierenden und Promovierenden ein, die sich über ihre beruflichen Möglichkeiten nach dem Studium oder der Promotion Gedanken machen. Vom 29. November bis 01. Dezember 2019 im Magnus-Haus Berlin werden uns Physikerinnen und Physiker aus verschiedenen Unternehmen und Themengebieten von ihrer Arbeit und ihrem Einstieg in den Beruf berichten.

Das Seminar verschafft euch Einblicke in das Arbeitsleben und den Werdegang mehrerer Physiker/innen, die in Wirtschaft und Forschung tätig sind. Der universitäre Arbeitsalltag ist euch bekannt, aber wie kann man sein Fachwissen und außerfachlichen Kompetenzen nach der Uni anwenden? Vor welchen unerwarteten Aufgaben wird man stehen? Wie findet man den Beruf, der zu einem passt? Auf diese und viele weitere Fragen könnt ihr auf dem Seminar antworten bekommen.

Wissenschaft und Ethik – Welche Verantwortung tragen Forschende? (November 25-26, 2019)

Die Seminarreihe „Junge Wissenschaft und Praxis“ richtet sich an Promovierende und Postdocs aller an der Universität Leipzig vertretenen Disziplinen. Das diesjährige Seminar zum Thema „Wissenschaft und Ethik – welche Verantwortung tragen Forschende?“ setzt sich mit ethischen Fragestellungen im Wissenschaftsalltag auseinander.

Diese betreffen nicht nur die Normen guter wissenschaftlicher Praxis, sondern auch Chancen und Risiken neuer Forschungsergebnisse. Die inhaltliche Ausrichtung fokussiert sich auf juristische, naturwissenschaftliche und philosophische Perspektiven zu aktuellen ethischen Fragen wissenschaftlichen Handelns.

Surviving in academia – how to maintain mental wellbeing in the scientific field (November 7, 2019)

Summary:

Navigating through the academic world can often be challenging and sometimes negatively affect your mental wellbeing. However, there are also many reliable ways to alleviate prolonged stress and pressure. This event seeks to inform you about the most common challenges in academia and ways to handle them. Keynotes, workshops, a podium discussion and an opportunities fair with professionals, researchers and PhD/Postdoc representatives will give a comprehensive outlook on the topic. In addition, there will be the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences as well as to network at the get-together afterwards (food and drinks will be provided). Silbersalz19 Science & Media Festival, Halle (June 20-23, 2019)

SILBERSALZ is the first international science film festival of its kind, taking place in 2019 from 20. until 23. June 2019 for the second time in Halle.

As a combination of festival and conference, SILBERSALZ makes science accessible in a clear and vivid fashion while simultaneously serving as a platform for the exchange of ideas and mutual inspiration.

The aim of SILBERSALZ is to provide the general public with access to scientific topics and to allow them to ask questions, thereby promoting a lively and active engagement with science in general.

The SILBERSALZ program is extensive, varied and is aimed at anyone who is interested, whether young or old, layman or expert, science fan or skeptic.

Get-together of Research School Network Halle (July 11, 2019)

The Research School Network Halle invites all participating researchers to the first summer meeting. Here local research schools will introduce themselves. The plenary talk will address open questions of general interest to all participants and will show possible strategies to tackle environmental problems. Participants form several research schools will have the opportunity to get into contact in a stimulating atmosphere, which fosters exchange and creates opportunities for collaborations.
