It was the first Russian-language newspaper in the Caucasus, published in Tiflis (Tbilisi), Georgia.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/dlib.eastview.com\/browse\/publication\/81821\">To the database Kavkaz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The database allows full-text search. Selected pages may be downloaded in PDF-format.<\/p>\n<p>The collection is available free of charge in Germany and in German research institutions abroad via national licence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>About Kavkaz<\/h2>\n<p>The main purpose of the newspaper was, on the one hand, to promote the Russian culture and Russian influence in the Caucasus, and on the other hand \u201cto acquaint the Russian public with the life, habits and traditions of the tribes populating the province of the Caucasus\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In 1846 Kavkaz began as a weekly newspaper, from 1850 it started to come out twice a week, in 1868 its periodicity changed to 3 times per week and from 1877 it became a daily publication until its closure in 1918.<\/p>\n<p>This Russian-language newspaper published official documents of the Russian Empire, as well as many historical, cultural and archeological writings by the prominent public and cultural figures of the local intelligentsia. During the brief period of 1846-1847 this newspaper had an Armenian-language counterpart.<\/p>\n<h2>Cooperation<\/h2>\n<p>The licensing was arranged in cooperation with the Specialised Information Service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osmikon.de\/\">Russian, East and Southeast European Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Modes of Access<\/h2>\n<p>University members may use the existing institutional access. This allows for an easy access without a separate login at most German universities and research institutions. Please inquire about possibilities of external access beyond the campus network (e.g. through VPN) at your home institution.<\/p>\n<p>Interested parties without institutional access may <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationallizenzen.de\/ind_inform_registration\">register for a private login<\/a>, under the condition of being a permanent resident of Germany.
