Verantwortlich war bis 1894 der gleichnamige Kunstwart-Verlag in Dresden, ein Wechsel zum Callwey-Verlag in M\u00fcnchen erh\u00f6hte die Auflage. Anliegen des Gr\u00fcnders und Herausgebers Ferdinand Avenarius war es, antielit\u00e4r \u00fcber Kultur zu schreiben und, den Ideen der Lebensreform folgend, ein naturverbundeneres Leben zu propagieren.
