    Teaching Statement

My name is Michael Schöner. Together with a colleague, I am head of the Centre for Academic and Digital Skills at the University of Greifswald. Here, I am responsible for the Graduate Academy and University Didactics. Moreover, I am a certified trainer for research integrity since 2020, a certified conflict mediator since 2022 and anti-discrimination officer since 2024. I have studied German, History, Biology and Philosophy and received my doctorate in Biology.

As a workshop trainer, teaching in a learning centred, differentiating and diversity-sensitive way is important to me. My aim is to encourage the course participants’ reflection rather than simply presenting knowledge of facts. Therefore, I consider discussions as an opportunity to reflect on myself and to build strategies how to behave in challenging situations.

Meeting people at eye level is important to me. You are therefore welcome to let me know if you have any special needs. These may address e.g., accessibility or gender-specific wishes, such as your name or pronouns. You are welcome to use the pronouns he and him for me.

These are my wishes for our workshop:

    • strict confidentiality when it comes to sensitive topics and experiences
    • respect for all participants and for me
    • no discrimination
    • feedback, constructive participation and criticism
    • lots of learning opportunities
    • having fun and a productive time together
