We had organised a variety of Social Activities along with the Scientific programmes in order to encourage a lively exchange amongst the young Scientists.

27.08 Halle(Saale): Registration and City Tour

After the registration, we started the summer school with a tour of the city of Halle.

Halle’s early history is connected with the harvesting of salt. The Halloren-Werke is the oldest chocolate factory in Germany.

At 16:00 we met at Marktplatz(Marketplace)  for a guided tour through the city of Halle that lies on the banks of the river Saale.

28.08 Freyburg: Wine landscape & Tote
Täler

After lunch we travelled to the wine landscape near Freyburg(on the river Unstrut) and the nature reserve Tote Täler(one of the most Orchid rich areas in the new German states) for a Hike and finished the trip with a visit to a winery and dinner.

30.08 Halle(Saale): Evening Sessions

At 19:00 hours we met at Uniplatz (the main administrative and Law campus of the University) for a brief session on “Five reasons to do your PhD in Germany ” by the International Office of the MLU followed by an introduction to the Master course “Polymer Material Science” by Karsten Busse.

The evening concluded with Dinner.

31.08 Leipzig: Stand Up Paddling/Bike Tour

We visited the beautiful city of Leipzig for lectures which were be followed by some fun excursions after Lunch.

Kulkwitzer See(Lake Kulkwitz)

Lake Kulkwitz is one of the oldest lakes in Leipzig. On the western outskirts of Leipzig you will find one of the most popular bathing lakes in the region and due to its exceptional water quality also one of the most important inland diving waters.

SUP(Stand up paddleboarding) is a water sport with roots in Hawaii.

We travelled to the the beautiful Kulkwitzer See for a lively session of Stand Up Paddling (there was a coach present for the initial orientation).

Bike Tour

The historic central area of Leipzig features a Renaissance-style ensemble of buildings from the sixteenth century, including the old city hall in the marketplace.

31.08 Leipzig: Evening Sessions

At 19:00 hours we met at Augustusplatz and were joined by Prof. Frank Cichos for an evening session about the MSc. Programme “International Physics Studies Program” followed by a session on Research opportunities in Germany by the International Office University of Leipzig.

The programme concluded with Dinner.

02.09 Leipzig: Poster Session

After the lectures, a Poster session was held where all the participants presented the posters that they prepared on Tuesday.

After the Poster session, Prof. Dr. Thomas-Thurn Albrecht delivered the closing remarks after which the evening and the Summer School ended with Dinner,
