Hyphenated techniques combine chromatographic and spectral methods to exploit the advantages of both techniques.

High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC; formerly referred as high-pressure liquid chromatography or hewlett-packard liquid chromatography) separates components out of a mixtureusing pressurized liquid sovents (containing the sample mixture) through a column filled with solid adsorbent. Because each component will slightly differently interact with mobile and solid phase they will separate as they flow out the column.

Using microLC (column i.d. 500-1000 µm), capillaryLC (column i.d. 150-500 µm) or nanoLC (column i.d. 25-150 µm) you’ll gain in sensitivity of more than 10×, 100× or 1000×, respectively. This greater sensitivity is combined with less consumption of solvents: 10-50 µL/min, 1-10 µL/min or 20-1000 nL/min, respectively.

Both LTQ and Synapt are LC/MS coupled systems: UltiMate 3000 RSLCnano System for our LTQ-XL and nanoACQUITY UPLC System for our Synapt G2-S.
