Diese Woche fand in Essen ein DINI-Nestor Workshop der AG Forschungsdaten zur Auswahl und zur Bewertung von Forschungsdaten statt. Bisher ging es in der Arbeitsgruppe meist um die Frage, wie Forschungsdaten überhaupt langfristig archiviert werden können und was zu unternehmen ist, um Workflows für ein nachhaltiges Datenmanagement zu entwickeln. Grundsätzlich stand dabei auch die Erkenntnis über die Endlichkeit des zur Verfügung stehenden Speichervolumens im Raum. In der Praxis waren jedoch andere Kriterien sehr viel wichtiger.
Mittlerweile hat sich die Situation allerdings entscheidend verändert. Gerade in den Naturwissenschaften fallen enorme Mengen automatisiert erzeugter Daten an. Da etliche Datenzentren nunmehr eine geregelte Tätigkeit aufgenommen haben, mehren sich die Datenmengen rasant. Auswahlkriterien und Evaluationsstrategien gewinnen daher an Bedeutung.
