18. Juni 2023 - 24. Juni 2023 / 00:00
This seminar aimed to train students in the field of museum studies, taking as a point of departure the representation of transatlantic slavery in the British port cities. From June 18-24, 2023 we visited – as a group of 15 students – London and Liverpool. During the field trip, we examined how Britain’s involvement in the triangular trade is remembered and especially, which agency is given to the enslaved. As part of the trip, we visited the Museum of London Docklands and the Albert and Victoria Museum in London as well as the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool. In addition, we looked at postcolonial urban environments to see how both cities engage with their colonial past.
This field trip was organized and lead by Esther Wetzel and PD Dr. Julia Nitz.
