Diejenigen mit den reinsten Seelen sind zu den schlimmsten Schandtaten fähig. Niemand ist vollkommen, egal was jemand ist oder auf wessen Seite er kämpft.
Die 17-Jährige Layla hat ihre Eltern nie kennen gelernt und wurde als kleines Mädchen von den Wächtern aufgenommen – Gargoyles die am Tag zu Stein werden und in der Nacht Dämonen jagen. Layla selber ist auch zur Hälfte Wächterin aber zur anderen Hälfte Dämonin. Als wäre das das nicht schon chaotisch genug, erscheint Ross auf der Bildfläche, ein Hohedämon der extrem attraktiv ist und nicht mehr von ihrer Seite weichen will. Für Layla waren Dämonen jedoch seit jeher das Böse und sie hat alles getan um ihre dunkle Seite zu unterdrücken. Doch Ross lässt sich aus irgendeinem Grund nicht mehr aus ihrem Leben vertreiben und so langsam schleichen sich Zweifel ein, ob sie das überhaupt will. Da ist jedoch auch noch Zane, eigentlich ihr Adoptivbruder, in den Layla seit Jahren heimlich verliebt ist. Am liebsten würde Sie einfach ein ganz normales Teenangerleben führen, doch dann erfährt sie von ihrer wahren Herkunft und nichts bleibt mehr wie es war.
Mit Dark Elements ist Jennifer L. Armentrout eine wunderbare Trilogie gelungen, bei der ich lachen, weinen, wüten und mich wundern konnte. Sie entführt ihren Leser in die Welt von Himmel und Hölle und zeigt auf, dass es manchmal nicht nur schwarz und weiß gibt.
Layla ist eine Romanheldin, mit der man sich sehr gut identifizieren kann und bei der es leicht fällt mitzuleiden. Sie ist wunderbar sympathisch, tollpatschig aber auch sehr ehrgeizig und loyal. Für ihre „Familie“ hätte sie alles getan, muss dann jedoch erkennen, dass nichts so ist wie es scheint und stätig fällt ihre Welt in sich zusammen. Man kann ihr dabei zusehen, wie sie Buch für Buch erwachsener wird und mit ihren Aufgaben und Schicksalsschlägen wächst.
Am Ende geht es nicht mehr nur um die Frage für welchen Mann in ihrem Leben sie sich entscheidet, sondern vor allem um Familie, Herkunft und Freundschaft.
Ich konnte mich sehr schnell in die Welt von Layla, Zayne und Ross reinfühlen und habe alle drei Bücher in sehr kurzer Zeit regelrecht verschlungen. So sehr ich auch wissen wollte, wie die Geschichte endet, so traurig war ich auch, als es dann vorbei war. Aber eins kann ich sagen, ich kann Laylas Entscheidung sehr gut verstehen! 🙂
