Softwaretipp des Monats Januar: Webbasierte Literaturverwaltung litw3
Die Nützlichkeit von Literatur- und Ideenverwaltungssystemen hat sich unter Geisteswissenschaftlern schon seit einiger Zeit herumgesprochen. Das Spektrum der kommerziellen (Endnote, Bibliographix etc.) und nichtkommerziellen (LiterRat bzw. Citavi (bis 100 Einträge); Zotero) Produkte bietet hervorragende, im Leistungssprektrum natürlich abgestufte Möglichkeiten zur effizienten Arbeit mit Abstracts und Rezensionen, mit webbasierten Literaturdatenbanken, eigenen Referenzsystemen und zum Zitieren.
Allerdings erweist sich eine Desktop- oder Netzwerklösung für viele Nutzungsarten weniger flexibel. Um gemeinsam in einer Community bzw. einem räumlich disparaten Forschungsteam mit einem Literaturverwaltungssystem arbeiten zu können, bieten sich webbasierte Tools geradezu an. Allerdings verlief unsere Suche nach einer solchen Anwendung trotz Web 2.0 ziemlich zäh. Kann man viele Webservices heute für alle möglichen Belange kostenfrei oder doch kostengünstig mieten, scheint es für Literaturverwaltung kaum einen Markt bzw. Anbieter zu geben. Mit litw3 [http://litw3.uni-muenster.de/web/] fanden wir schließlich eine Entwicklung des WWU Münster aus dem Jahr 2002, die als Open Source Produkt mit GNU License zumindest für den eigenen Betrieb eine Lösung bietet. Das auf Grundlage von PHP/MySQL entwickelte Programm steht bei Campussource [http://www.campussource.de/] nach Anmeldung zum Download zur Verfügung [http://www.campussource.de/software/litw/]. Zur Implementierung und Konfiguration des Systems stehen detailierte Skripte zur Verfügen, erfordern aber natürlich Spezialkenntnisse im Umgang mit Servern und Serverplatz. Der Nutzer benötigt neben dem Internetzugang, einen Browser, der Frames unterstützt, JavaScript interpretiert und Cookies zulässt
Mit tatkräftiger Unterstützung des hiesigen Rechenzentrums [http://www.urz.uni-halle.de/] haben wir das Tool für eine webbasierte Literatursammlung von Volldigitalisaten rund um das Thema der frühneuzeitlichen Hexenverfolgung ausprobiert [http://www.histdata.uni-halle.de/litw/]. Probleme gab es vor allem mit der Einrichtung der verschieden Nutzertypen, die über individuelle Passwörter einen differenzierten Zugriff auf litw3 erhalten und in einem Admin-Bereich verwaltet werden können.
Anders als bei den Desktop-Lösungen gibt es bisher keine Anbindung an die großen Literaturdatenbanken, sondern der Eintrag muss manuell eingegeben bzw. kopiert werden. Allerdings können Textdateien mit beliebigen Feldtrennzeichen importiert und exportiert werden. Auch die Einbindung als Zitationsmedium erfordert eigene programmiertechnische Kenntnisse. Wie üblich bei Open Source Projekten wird auch hier auf eine breite Weiterentwicklung durch die Community gesetzt, was sich in diesem Fall sicherlich lohnen würde.
Die Handhabung des Systems gestaltet sich überaus einfach, ist in der Basisfunktion allerdings auch noch sehr puristisch. Über 60 Eingabefelder stehen zur Konfiguration verschiedener benutzerspezifischen Ein- und Ausgabemaske zur Verfügung. Die Ausgabe der Daten lässt sich jeweils für eine Lang- und Kurzfassung unterschiedlich definieren. Neben der eigentlichen Literaturverwaltung ermöglicht das Tool die Speicherung von Dateien. Insgesamt funktioniert die Volltext-, Schlagwort-, Titel- und Autorensuche schnell und gründlich, die Suche nach dem Jahr musste erst zum Laufen gebracht werden. Für unseren Zweck der Sammlung von sehr unterschiedlichen Daten und bibliographischen Angaben hat sich litw3 als hinreichend flexibel und funktionstüchitg bewährt.
