[PhD initiative at UL]: Workshop on Stress Management (October 13, 2018)

We experience stress every day, but how do we cope with it? Living in a new country, work-life balance, other factors and of course Ph.D. itself bring a lot of stressful thoughts. During the workshop, participants learnt the main techniques of relaxation, analyze the current causes of stress and developing their own strategy of stress management.

Doctoral students and postdocs

Course objectives:

Participants learnt the most used relaxation techniques and develop their stress management strategies.

  • Stress symptoms. Stress and body.
  • Stress causes:
    • Adaptation to a new country/culture. Stress-related cultural differences.
    • Work-life balance.
    • Ph.D. stress (pressure, lack of motivation, procrastination).

  • Analysis of stress situations
  • Dealing with stress. Preferable methods. Stress and sport
  • Benson relaxation method
  • Jacobson’s progressive relaxation technique
  • Autogenetic training

Lecturer

Asya Matushanskaya holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Leipzig. She completed her diploma in Psychology and, afterward, was teaching Psychology and Pedagogy in Russia. Currently, she is working as an instructor and is doing workshops focused on psychological issues, especially stress management
