Management of R objects, workspace, Help system, R packages, data types, Working with GUI RStudio, importing and exporting of data, Importing/exporting foreign formats such as SPSS datasets or .*cho, Summary statistics, dealing with missing data, Modify data set structures, Extracting partial data sets (split, submit, which), Working with tables: Row sums, column sums, Frequency tables, Graphical representation of frequency tables, Special table functions, Overview on graphic types, Layout and graphic design, graphics output, Algorithms in Data Science, Data import, processing, modelling and visualization, Overview about the classification of algorithms in Machine Learning.

The workshop was held online in English.

Insights behind the CV: Lea Ann Dailey (03.12.2021, 12.30-14.00)

You are warmly invited to join the informal career talks by Lea Ann Dailey! Successful scientists share their experiences as a woman in natural science and tell the story behind their official CV. After the talk there will be enough time for informal discussion and networking.

Target audience are (female) natural scientists from our university and related institutes.

Date: December 3, 2021
12.30-14.00
online via zoom

Doctoral Students Seminar (December 9, 2021): GSP-booster

We will use our December-seminar to refresh our knowledge about Good Scientific Practice! During this short and interactive workshop, we will discuss questionable conduct of research in small groups.

date: December 9, 2021 (15.00-16.30)
online workshop via zoom
lecturer: Dr. Nicole Sachmerda-Schulz (certified GSP-trainer)

[BEAM] Native mass spectrometry to study protein-ligand interactions (March 29+31, 2022)

Day 1:
• Lecture (approx. 90 mins): Introduction to mass spectrometry, protein identification, structural MS (basics of native MS)
• Wet lab: Sample preparation for native MS, preparing electrospray emitters for native MS, acquisition of native mass spectra (proteins and protein complexes)
Day 2:
• Lecture (approx. 90 mins): Advanced native MS experiments, data analysis, examples from literature
• Wet lab: Acquisition of native mass spectra (protein-ligand complexes), data analysis

Te scientific module is organized by RTG BEAM. Registration is closed.

[UL] Mental health awareness days (November 2-4, 2021)

Working in the academic environment can be quite stressful and we shouldn’t forget to also take care of our mental well-being. The Leipzig University in cooperation with HIGRADE graduate school and yDiv organised a digital theme week that aimed at researchers at all career levels and offers different formats, e.g. short activating morning sessions and academic exchange.

You find the detailed programme and access links here (all events in English, no registration needed): https://www.uni-leipzig.de/en/event-detail/artikel/mental-health-awareness-days-2021-11-02/

[DFG] DFG Funding Opportunities for Postdocs (November 9, 2021, 14.00-15.30)

The DFG offered a short webinar concerning their funding options for the postdoctoral phase.

Germany’s largest independent research funding organisation offered funding opportunities for all career stages between doctorate and professorship. This webinar imparted the knowledge regarding the DFG and its funding portfolio for postdocs in Germany. We gave a quick overview about the Walter Benjamin, the Emmy Noether and the Heisenberg Programme, as well as the Individual Research Grant with a temporary position for principal investigators. We also provided advice on how to prepare proposals and what happens after submission to the DFG.

Registration here.

[UL] Equal Opportunities in Research Collaborations (November+December 2021)

The SFB1052, the SFB1199, the SFB1423 and the TRR67 pool gender equality measures, ideas and offers to sustainably establish the common goal of promoting equal opportunities in research collaborations. The pooling strategy enables gender equality activities directly oriented towards the centres’ needs and provides a collaborative exchange platform. The varied workshops and training programs will be combined with an opening lecture about the personal career path of a female scientist working in the research alliance. The lectures and the talks are in English language
