Cycling is excellent for body and mind. It is good for the muscles and lungs, it helps against physical ailments and defects. Cycling is suitable for most people. There are many good reasons to get on a bike. In June, there is one more – MLU is taking part in the Academic Bicycle Challenge again in 2023!
What is the Academic Bicycle Challenge?
The Academic Bicycle Challenge (ABC) is an international bicycle competition between universities that aims to create awareness for healthy and environmentally friendly mobility by bicycle.
From 01.06. – 30.06.2023, MLU members can take part in the ABC. During this month, they will pedal and record their daily bicycle journeys via app. The ABC counts all the kilometres covered and creates exciting rankings – by individual, team, academic discipline and university. Which discipline cycles the most diligently? How does MLU compare to other universities?

Ziel dieses Berufungstrainings ist es, die Teilnehmenden auf alle Phasen des Bewerbungsprozesses optimal vorzubereiten. Wir beschäftigen uns mit den nötigen Qualifikationen für eine Juniorprofessur oder Professur, den schriftlichen Bewerbungsunterlagen sowie mit inhaltlichen und strategischen Überlegungen für Berufungsvortrag, Lehrprobe und Kommissionsgespräch. Wir thematisieren dabei die wichtigsten Stationen und die kritischen Momente des Auswahlprozesses, typische Fragen im Kommissionsgespräch, mögliche Fallstricke während des Berufungsvortrags und der Lehrprobe, aber auch die ambivalenten Interessen innerhalb einer Berufungskommission. Darüber hinaus trainieren wir die erfolgreiche Selbstpräsentation sowie die Herausstellung der eigenen Qualifikationen in den verschiedenen Phasen des Berufungsverfahrens.
Sie haben sich nach Ihrem Studium für eine wissenschaftliche Karriere entschieden? Eine Promotion kann ganz schön herausfordernd sein. Gar nicht so leicht, dabei einen kühlen Kopf zu bewahren. Wenn neben der Promotion noch weitere Faktoren hinzukommen, die den Stress erhöhen, kann sich das auf Ihre Leistungsfähigkeit auswirken und auch den Erfolg Ihrer Promotion beeinflussen. Zu den Faktoren, die den Druck in der Promotionsphase erhöhen, zählen bspw. Leistungsdruck in der Forschung und beim Publizieren, Zeit- und Termindruck, berufliche Unsicherheiten oder familiäre Verpflichtungen. Wie Sie es dennoch schaffen können, den Anforderungen Ihrer Promotionszeit gerecht zu werden und trotzdem in Balance zu bleiben?
Tenure-Track-Stellen sind im deutschen akademischen System ein vergleichsweise neuer Karriereweg. Inhaber*innen einer Tenure-Track-Position erhalten nach dem erfolgreichen Abschluss ihrer Tenure-Phase direkt eine Dauerstelle, z. B. in Form einer Lebenszeitprofessur. Die Tenure-Track-Professur ist die konzeptionelle Weiterentwicklung der Juniorprofessur und daher sind die meisten Tenure-Track-Professuren in Deutschland mit einer Juniorprofessur verbunden; weniger üblich und bekannt sind Stellen im akademischen Mittelbau, z. B. als Senior Researcher oder Lecturer mit Tenure-Track. Der Workshop konzentriert sich auf Tenure-Track-Professuren in Deutschland.
Our project partners from Addis Ababa University (AAU), Ethiopia and Gulu University (GU), Uganda visited us for a workshop from September 2-7, 2022.
From the InGrA perspective and the subproject “Building up a Graduate Program Hub” we visited the iDiv research center and it’s graduate school yDiv and exchanged ideas about supervision agreements. We also visited the MPI of Microstructure Physics and it’s International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS-STNS) and discussed aspects of good scientific practice.
The workshop overall focused on exchange, report on the progress of the project and possible future perspectives. The workshop has been coordinated by Dr. T. Weirowski.
The hot stove, the forgotten pill: How can modern technologies make life easier for older people at home without overburdening them with technology and without patronizing them? A project of business informatics specialists and multimedia designers is developing new ideas for this.

So what does a career in science at MLU look like? A doctorate is often the beginning of an academic career towards a professorship. And yet, the doctorate opens up many other career opportunities, both at MLU and at many other institutions.
