Doctoral studies and HalDoc – your steps during the doctorate at MLU

Step one: Find a research topic and a supervisor
Please identify a research topic you are interested in and find a professor supervising you during your doctorate.

Step two: Initial registration at HalDoc
New doctoral students register themselves at the beginning of their doctoral studies at HalDoc. HalDoc is the electronic system for the registration of doctoral students at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.

Step three: Research and writing of thesis
Doctoral students generate new knowledge and contribute to the research field. This part of the scientific career requires a high degree of personal responsibility and independence.

Step four: Starting the doctoral examination procedure at HalDoc
Doctoral students who will submit their dissertations soon apply for admission to the doctoral examination procedure (link to the application at HalDoc)

Step five: Submission and defence of thesis
The submitted dissertations will be reviewed by referees of the corresponding research field. Afterwards doctoral students will defend their thesis.
