[IAMO GS] What is next: career planning after PhD (March 8-9, 2023)
There are free slots in the following workshop organised by the IAMO Graduate School.
This training gives advanced doctoral researchers and also postdocs insights into the structure of career paths in academia, in public service outside academia and in the private sector – with a focus on the German labor market. It supports participants in giving sufficient thought to when and on what basisthey should decide for or against a career in science. Participants will also become aware of their personal interests, values and competences and how this knowledge can be used to find the appropriate jobs.

Career inside academia, e.g.:
- Academic career paths in Germany/ comparison with the USA and Great Britain
- Possible structures of the postdoc phase in Germany
- Risks and requirements on the way to a professorship in Germany
Career outside academia, e.g.:
- Career paths in the private and public sector
- Identify skills & competencies acquired during doctoral training/ gained until now
- Structure of the German labor market, strategies for the job search
- Explore the labor market and develop ideas of job profiles that fit: Active job search
- Networking as a career strategy – how can I use my existing networks?
- Start-up and self-employment as alternatives
