De-escalation and boundary setting in exceptional professional situations (November 28, 2024 | online)

Written by

You will learn about the forms and triggers of aggression and threats, specific warning signals for imminent escalation and strategies for psychological de-escalation and setting boundaries. In addition, preventative measures and dealing with stress will be discussed.

Course Description (Nov 28, 2024 from 10.15-11.45am | online)

The diverse interactions that take place at a university between students, academic staff and technical and administrative employees usually run quite smoothly. However, unacceptable escalations can occur too. Insults, threats of violence and vandalism are just examples.

The reasons for conflict depend on the respective area of one’s own activity: Missing a deadline, receiving a tip-off about one’s own misconduct or the feeling of being treated disadvantageously compared to others are among the risk situations in which some people react increasingly aggressively.

About Mental Health Awareness Days (November 27-29, 2024)

The Mental Health Awareness Days 2024, which will take place from 27 to 29 November, are a joint initiative of Leipzig University, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, yDiv/iDiv and HIGRADE/UFZ. Organised by its graduate academies and occupational health management units, we want to support you as researchers at our universities and research institutions. The aim of the graduate institutions and occupational health management is to inform and raise awareness of how you, as researchers at our universities and research institutions, can deal with challenging situations and conflicts in your research activities. Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers are exposed to high levels of mental stress and we would like to support you with the topics presented in order to defuse mental stress situations, set limits or even contribute to your well-being.
