[iDiv] What is Science, Really? Join iDiv in Shaping a Symposium
Zarah Janda, PhD representative at iDiv, is planning a symposium on a big question: What is science—and what isn’t? She’d love your help bringing it to life.
Potential Topics:
- What counts as a fact, theory, or “truth”?
- Frequentist vs. Bayesian statistics—what can data really tell us?
- Responding to anti-science rhetoric (e.g., “evolution is just a theory”)
- Spotting and avoiding predatory journals
- What defines good science? How do we handle mistakes?
- Lessons from scientific fraud
- How to read papers and join scientific debates
- Presenting science: confidence vs. overstatement
- A Science Fraud Pub Quiz—and more!
This will be a collaborative event, and Zarah is looking for a small team of motivated doctoral students to help organize: from promotion and speaker outreach to logistics and hosting. It’s a great chance to gain experience and shape an exciting, meaningful program.
