Promoting talent – Scholarships for doctoral students

The Heinrich Böll Foundation is the Green political foundation. Under the heading “promoting talent”, every year the foundation supports around 1,200 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students – from all subjects and types of higher educational institutions in Germany and abroad – who affirm the goals of the Green project. Each year, up to 250 new scholarship recipients join the programme.

The objective of the scholarships is to promote future leaders and experts who are prepared to take on social responsibility, are interested in politics, and work to pass on the basic political values of the Heinrich Böll Foundation: ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination and justice. The scholarship department champions the principle of sustainability; the seminar programme is committed to the objectives of education for sustainability.

Second funding period of two Research Training Groups approved

Congratulations! The German Research Foundation (DFG) is once again funding two Research Training Groups (RTGs) at MLU with around four million euros each. This will enable the successful training of doctoral students in the fields of plant research and protein research to be continued and expanded.

The Research Training Group “Communication and Dynamics of Plant Cell Compartments (GRK 2498)” is investigating the question of how plants produce their special ingredients and valuable substances.

The Research Training Group “Intrinsically Disordered Proteins – Molecular Principles, Cellular Functions, and Diseases (GRK 2467)” is investigating a special class of proteins that is also responsible for many serious diseases.

Networking-Event Startup FOCUS PITCH & CONNECT (November 13, 2023)

As part of the Entrepreneurship Week at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, the Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office, in cooperation with Univations GmbH and with the kind support of Stadtwerke Halle GmbH, is hosting the pitch and networking event “Startup FOCUS PITCH & CONNECT”.

On Monday, 13.11.2023, the doors of Volkspark Halle (Schleifweg 8a, 06114 Halle (Saale)) will open from 18:30 for all interested founders, startup enthusiasts and partners of the regional startup ecosystem. At around 6:45 pm, we will open the CONNECT networking part with a success story of Johannes Raschpichler, founder and CEO of Insone GmbH, and then invite you to get to know or re-connect to each other over a few snacks, exchange ideas and network. Take this opportunity to get to know a wide variety of players and supporters of the regional entrepreneurship ecosystem, such as current pre-founding teams, startups and investors in the traditional ambience of Volkspark and to network with them or refresh existing contacts!

Call for entries German Study Award (Deutscher Studienpreis) 2024

The competition is aimed at young scientists from all disciplines who have submitted an excellent dissertation of particular social significance in 2022. With three top prizes of 25,000 euros each, it is one of the most highly endowed German prizes for young researchers. The closing date for the current call for entries is March 1, 2024.

The Körber Foundation wants to encourage young scientists to confidently represent the social value of their research and contribute to the public debate. With the “Deutscher Studienpreis“, the foundation therefore honors doctoral students who have presented tangible results that are of outstanding interest to society. The patron of the award is Bärbel Bas, President of the German Bundestag.

Stipends for doctoral students from the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt 2024

Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) biannually provides funding for scholarships. The funding comes from the Ministry of Science, Energy, Climate Protection and Environment of the State of Saxony-Anhalt. Start of the funding for this call is in the summer semester in April 2024.

  • Announcement of graduate scholarships for doctoral candidates according to the Graduate Promotion Act of the State of Saxony-Anhalt (in German):

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants are those who

  • have demonstrated a special aptitude for academic work through well above-average study and examination results,
  • have completed a university degree,
  • is preparing for a doctorate at MLU,
  • presents a scientific project that is expected to make an important contribution to research, and
  • is supervised by a (non-retired) university lecturer at MLU.

The scholarship can be applied for every semester. As a rule, it is granted for a period of three years.

[U Heidelberg] Study on the topic of Time Use, Networking Behavior & Visibility in the academic field

The Chair of Organizational Behavior of the Alfred Weber Institute (AWI) for Economics at the University of Heidelberg is looking for participants for a study on the topic of Time Use, Networking Behavior & Visibility in the academic field.

Participants (female/male/diverse) should already be at the Postdoc phase of their academic career or beyond. The study will take place across disciplines and universities and is in English. The study consists of a survey (approximately 35 minutes) and an experimental session (approximately 40 minutes). Both parts of the study will take place online. Earnings will be on average 20 Euros per hour depending on decisions and performance in different tasks.

[MLU] Agreement of cooperation for the support of early-career scientists in Saxony-Anhalt

Both universities and the four Universities of Applied Sciences (HAW) in Saxony-Anhalt have signed a cooperation agreement. The main goal of this cooperation is to strengthen the collaboration for the qualification of scientists in the early career phase in Saxony-Anhalt.

Minister A. Willingmann and the rectors of OVGU, HS Harz, MLU, HS Magdeburg-Stendal, HS Anhalt and HS Merseburg after signing the agreement of cooperation.

First, HAW and universities agree to consider doctoral candidates in qualification formats such as workshops or information events. Secondly, experiences and best practice examples for the promotion of early-career researchers will be exchanged between the graduate academies and HAW.
