The interactive workshop aims at improving non-native English speakers’ skills in writing scientific texts in English and to permanently upgrade the linguistic quality of their English writing. Participants will be equipped with a textbook written by the trainer that covers all the features introduced during the sessions, they will have ample opportunity to ask individual questions, and they will receive immediate feedback on their own writing.

“Scientific integrity forms the basis of trustworthy research,” states the preamble to the DFG’s Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice.
In his interactive workshop, Dr. Michael Schöner will address what scientific integrity or scientific misconduct means in this context and show that there are gray areas between the two extremes, using the most common problems in questions of authorship, research data management (also related to diversity and gender variables) and supervision.

On Wednesday, 09 July, MLU’s Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office invites you to the event “Science2Impact: Understanding & Designing Interventions”, taking place from 09:00 to 10:50 in JTC Office Meeting Room, Große Steinstraße 79/80 (2.OG).
What exactly is Impact and how can we as scientists and humanitarians design it step by step in a grounded, methodical manner?
You will have a look at useful impact definitions, the Theory of Change and Logical Framework Approaches. Then JTC will discuss principles and review models of intervention based on the Double Diamond and the JTC Transfer Framework. In interactive pair and groupwork participants will get to know and try out a couple of tools to get a practical hold on the process. The course will be held in English.

Law graduate Dr. Lena Sophie Leffer is one of 31 doctoral candidates nominated for the German Academic Award 2025. In April, she received the university’s Dorothea Erxleben Prize for the best dissertation in the social sciences and humanities for her dissertation entitled “Automated Suspicion Algorithms – Strafverfolgung durch Künstliche Intelligenz am Beispiel der Geldwäsche”. The prize is endowed with 1,000 euros.
Chemist Dr. Justus Friedrich Thümmler has been awarded the university’s Dorothea Erxleben Prize for his dissertation entitled “Near-Infrared Fluorescent Single-Chain Nanoparticles as Contrast Agents for Photoacoustic Imaging”. He received the prize of 1,000 euros in the life and natural sciences category.
Jan Sievers, doctoral candidate in the Medical Physics department, received the “Student Paper Award” of the “European Conferences on Biomedical Optics” at the end of June. His work presented at the conference entitled “Parallelized data acquisition using a Fabry Perot sensor with uniform optical thickness and a camera based tomograph for photoacoustic imaging” was honoured.

In January 2026 the University Potsdam will, for the tenth time now, award a young scholar with the the “Voltaire Prize for Tolerance, International Understanding and Respect for Difference”. Each year the prize is granted to a young scholar who has made important contributions to the popular discourse in these topics or campaigned for freedom in research, and education as well as the right of free expression. The panel of judges will select a winner from the submitted nominations.
The winner of the Voltaire Award will be honored during the 2026 New Year’s Reception. The prize amounts to €5,000 and is financed by the Friede Springer Foundation.
