Promoting talent – Scholarships for doctoral students

Written by

The Heinrich Böll Foundation is the Green political foundation. Under the heading “promoting talent”, every year the foundation supports around 1,200 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students – from all subjects and types of higher educational institutions in Germany and abroad – who affirm the goals of the Green project. Each year, up to 250 new scholarship recipients join the programme.

The objective of the scholarships is to promote future leaders and experts who are prepared to take on social responsibility, are interested in politics, and work to pass on the basic political values of the Heinrich Böll Foundation: ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination and justice. The scholarship department champions the principle of sustainability; the seminar programme is committed to the objectives of education for sustainability.

Scholarships for PhD students

The scholarship department grants scholarships to doctoral students from all disciplines. The Heinrich Böll Foundation is particularly interested in supporting research projects related to focus areas of the work of the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Central to the nonmaterial promotion for PhD students are:

  • PhD scholar forum with science policy or higher education policy theme and presentations of research projects
  • Workshops (e.g. writing trainings, time management, etc.)
  • Seminars on career orientation
  • Support for research trips abroad (e.g. conferences, field research)
