Gender und Diversität in den Fachkulturen der Physik

Dass das Geschlecht von Forschenden in der Physik den Karriereerfolg beeinflussen kann, auch wenn es eigentlich keine Rolle spielen sollte, ist hinlänglich bekannt. Allerdings können auch soziale Herkunft, Migrationshintergrund und weitere Diversitätskategorien Auswirkungen auf eine wissenschaftliche Karriere haben. Der Vortrag wird einige Forschungsbefunde aus der Gender- und Diversitätsforschung zur Physik vorstellen. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt wird dabei auf Studien zu Arbeitsplatzkulturen in der Physik gelegt.
Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) biannually provides funding for scholarships. The funding comes from the Ministry of Science, Energy, Climate Protection and Environment of the State of Saxony-Anhalt. Start of the funding for this call is in the summer semester in April 2023.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants are those who
have demonstrated a special aptitude for academic work through well above-average study and examination results,
have completed a university degree,
is preparing for a doctorate at MLU,
presents a scientific project that is expected to make an important contribution to research, and
is supervised by a (non-retired) university lecturer at MLU.
The scholarship can be applied for every semester. As a rule, it is granted for a period of three years.
The competition is aimed at young scientists from all disciplines who have submitted an excellent dissertation of particular social significance in 2022. With three top prizes of 25,000 euros each, it is one of the most highly endowed German prizes for young researchers. The closing date for the current call for entries is March 1, 2023.
The Körber Foundation wants to encourage young scientists to confidently represent the social value of their research and contribute to the public debate. With the “Deutscher Studienpreis“, the foundation therefore honors doctoral students who have presented tangible results that are of outstanding interest to society. The patron of the award is Bärbel Bas, President of the German Bundestag.

Wie moderiere ich Diskussionen in Gruppen und Sitzungen transparent und demokratisch? Unser Seminar vermittelt praxisnah Methoden und Handwerkszeug der Moderation und Gesprächsführung und thematisiert Aufgaben und Funktion von Moderierenden.
Die Teilnehmenden entwickeln ein Verständnis für die professionelle Vorbereitung, Durchführung und Ergebnissicherung von Diskussionen, Sitzungen und Besprechungen. Unter Einbeziehung der Erfahrungen der Teilnehmenden werden unterschiedliche Zielebenen von Besprechungen reflektiert und Feedback dazu ausgetauscht.

Die Junge Akademie stands for the promotion of outstanding young scientists and artists, interdisciplinary work, and work at the intersections between science and society. It offers its members access to a wide, continually growing network as well as an attractive location and financial means for implementing joint interdisciplinary projects.
The members of Die Junge Akademie are united by their pleasure in joint intellectual work and in interdisciplinary exchange, and in tackling unsolved problems by trying new things and applying new perspectives. They come from a wide range of fields and are selected for a duration of five years. They have a research budget that they use for joint scientific and artistic projects, as well as a personal budget that can be used for individual funding.
Membership of Die Junge Akademie is intended for outstanding scientists and artists that can show evidence of a completed doctorate or an artistic work. This work must have been completed at least three, but no more than seven years before the end of the application deadline (Selection 2023: 15 November 2022) and can be demonstrated by the doctorate certificate or a comparable document. Parental, care and sick leave are all taken into account during the selection process.

Leipzig University, yDiv/iDiv and HIGRADE/UFZ organize an annual Mental Health Awareness Week. During the theme week, you will find various online offers (most of them in English) for relaxation exercises in the morning, workshops on mindfulness and mental training, and reports from those affected. In addition, information on prevention and dealing with mental stress will be provided.

9.05–9.50am Keynote: The first day of the Mental Health Awareness Week will focus on changes in psychological symptoms during the COVID 19 pandemic. Prof. Rummel-Kluge will also address the important topic of depression and suicidality and explain when this can occur and what actually needs to be done. In addition, the SMWKT-funded project enhance will be presented, which among other things offers online-based, low-threshold support services for students starting in the fall of 2022. Afterwards, there will be the opportunity to exchange ideas, ask questions and discuss the important topic of mental health online. Join here
The organizing committee encourages you and your group members to join the conference MacroStruct 23 in Leipzig, 1-3 March 2023. The meeting centres around processes of macromolecular structure formation, such as polymer crystallisation and protein fibrillation, and provides a platform to share innovative concepts bringing both fields together. Confirmed plenary speakers include: Alicyn Rhoades, Guenter Reiter, Sara Linse, Paolo Arosio, Sebastien Lecommandoux and Birgit Strodel.
Aside from classical talks, the doctoral students have organised a series of interactive sessions and workshops that allow researchers of all career stages to connect, exchange ideas and engage in lively discussions.
