In scientific management positions, women and trans*, inter* and non-binary persons (TIN persons) are still clearly underrepresented despite excellent qualifications and high motivation. With the “Professionalization through Coaching” format, the MLU therefore offers individual career planning for scientists (women and TIN persons).

The participants are supported in identifying and developing their potential and making the best use of opportunities, thus successfully realizing the path to a scientific management position. Questions about the development and genesis of a professional identity as a scientist or university professor are just as important as aspects of coping with specific qualification requirements and further life and career planning, whereby the compatibility of family and academic career also plays an important role.

DFG approves new Research Training Group “Inflammatory cues as modulators of early pancreatic carcinogenesis (InCuPanC)” at MLU

The Senate of the German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved the application for the Research Training Group (RTG) “Inflammatory cues as modulators of early pancreatic carcinogenesis (InCuPanC) (GRK 2751)”. This will provide Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with around five million euros for the training of doctoral students until 2026.

Diary in the pandemic: coaching helps students

Coaching can help students better adapt to changes such as those brought on by the Corona pandemic, even in a relatively short period of time. This is the key finding of a study conducted by MLU doctoral researchers in collaboration with an Austrian scientist. For this purpose, students kept a Corona diary for three weeks.

[UL] Equal Opportunities in Research Collaborations (Nov/Dec 2021)

The Collaborative Research Centers at Leipzig University (SFB1199, TRR67, SFB1052 and SFB1423) have compiled a workshop series on gender topics to visibly promote the perception of equal opportunities in research networks. An opening lecture precedes each workshop, presenting the personal career path of a female scientist working in the research network.

The talks and the online workshops are free of charge, in English language and open to all interested.

Part I (November 8, 2021) – Funding opportunities for research stays abroad as well as for the own position at home and abroad

The main topics of the workshop are funding possibilities for the postdoc phase (research stays abroad or scientific position in Germany). Funding opportunities from the EU, the DFG and the DAAD will be presented. Main target group are international doctoral candidates, who will finish their doctorate in the near future and postdoctoral researchers who have received their doctoral degree no longer than two years ago. The workshop is organised by the Department 6.1 – Research funding and cooperation and the International Office.

International PhD Days 2021 (October 21/22, 2021)

The International PhD Days mainly aim at doctoral candidates who have recently started their PhD at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. You will have the opportunity to learn about important areas of the university and its support services during short presentations. 

Schedule

Thursday, October 21, 2021

  • 1:00 – 1:30 pm: Welcome and opening of the International PhD Days with a greeting by the City of Halle
  • 1:30 – 2:00 pm: Doctoral studies and InGrA at MLU (Dr. Thomas Michael, InGrA)
  • 2:00 – 2:30 pm: Presentation on the support services of the International Office & PhD Network (Esther Smykalla & Markus Niedobitek, PhD Network)
  • 18:00 – 22:00: Get-together at Peißnitzhaus with buffet and drinks. According to the current regulations, this face-to-face event will take place according to the “3G rule”. This means that only persons who are vaccinated against Covid-19, recovered or tested negatively can participate; proof must be carried with them.
