A research design is a plan that specifies how you plan to carry out a research project and, particularly, how you expect to use evidence to answer your research question.

Open Science Webinars for MLU Postgraduate Students – (Sept-Nov 2020)
The Open Science Team – ULB at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is offering this workshop.
Scope
Come join us on a journey through the starting points of Open Science (OS). This webinar series is aimed at (but not restricted to) Postdocs and PhD students from different backgrounds and disciplines at the MLU. We want to talk to you about the possibilities and benefits of Open Science, which might help you at this earlier career stage. In seven web sessions, we will introduce you to a variety of OS topics, including an introduction to Open Science, data protection, legal and intellectual property rights, research data management, open educational resources (OER) etc.
Format
We will use the MLU conference system MLUconf for delivering the webinars. You don’t need to register, just join us on the day and participate: https://mluconf.uni-halle.de/b/rob-yz7-3e4

[PostDoc News] Die Junge Akademie is looking for 10 new members
In 2021 Die Junge Akademie is taking in ten new members. Applications are encouraged from committed and excellent young scientists and artists who enjoy interdisciplinary work for collaborative projects at the interface of science, art, society and politics. The application deadline is November 16, 2020.
Members have different backgrounds, ranging from Astrophysics to Law and Political Science to Philosophy of Science. They are elected for five years, during which they have access to a personal budget as well as to a joint research budget.
Criteria
A key requirement for membership in Die Junge Akademie is an outstanding dissertation. It should have been completed at least three, but no more than seven years prior to admission in Die Junge Akademie. Since then, the candidate should also have published at least one or more outstanding academic paper(s). Applications from artists are also welcome. Dedicated collaboration in Die Junge Akademie is expected.
Please note that while our members live and work internationally, participation in Die Junge Akademie requires sufficient proficiency in German. Please refer to the German website for further information.

DFG Emphasises Importance of Sex, Gender and Diversity to Research Projects

Taking sex, gender and diversity into account in the preparation and implementation of a research project helps to eliminate blind spots and thus increase the scientific quality of the results. For instance, research into the risks of osteoporosis in men has long been neglected, however, it is now known that around one-third of men are affected and require effective treatment. Furthermore, crash test dummies, modelled on both male and female bodies, illustrate individual injury risks for each sex and help to prevent them. In a statement, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) stressed the importance of taking sex, gender and diversity into account in research projects.
