Helen Thomas war das dienstälteste Mitglied des White House Press Corps, einer Gruppe von politischen Korrespondenten, die regelmäßig von den amtlichen Pressekonferenzen der US-Regierung im Weißen Haus berichten. Unter Präsident George W. Bush verweigerte sie angesichts des Irakkrieges diese Formel, und so verscherzte sie es sich mit Bush Junior (was sie aber kommentarlos verkraften konnte).
