Barack Obamas Presidential Library zieht nach Chicago

Chicago (Obamas langjährige Heimatstadt) hatte sich beworben, New York City (sein Studienort) und Honolulu auf Hawaii (sein Geburtsort) – sie alle versuchten die zukünftige Presidential Library von Präsident Barack Obama in die eigene Stadt zu holen. Nun hat sich Chicago durchgesetzt. Die Obama Presidential Library wird dabei in Zusammenarbeit mit der University of Chicago entstehen. Dabei handelt es sich bei den Presidential Libraries eigentlich nicht um wirkliche Bibliotheken, sondern vielmehr um Museen, die die konkrete Amtszeit des jeweiligen Präsidenten Revue passieren lassen und zu thematisieren versuchen, was das politische Erbe des jeweiligen Amtsinhabers war. Bill Clintons Presidential Library steht zum Beispiel in Little Rock (Arkansas) – derzeit übrigens mit einer aktuellen Ausstellung zu Dinosauriern in der ganzen Welt. Dazu führt er die Clinton Foundation. Die Library von Ronald Reagan ist nach seinem Ausscheiden aus dem Amt in Simi Valley (Kalifornien) gegründet worden, die von George W. Bush in Dallas (Texas). John F. Kennedys Presidential Library befindet sich außerhalb Bostons in Massachusetts.
