Lektüren: „Postdemokratie“ von Colin Crouch
Das Buch ist bereits vor sieben Jahren erschienen (im italienischen Original unter dem Titel „Postdemocrazia“ sogar schon im Jahr 2003), es liegt derzeit in der elften Auflage vor: in „Postdemokratie“ beschreibt der britische Politikwissenschaftler Colin Crouch (er lehrte Governance and Public Management an der University of Warwick) aktuelle Herausforderungen der Demokratie, darunter Politikverdrossenheit, Sozialabbau und Privatisierung. Unter Postdemokratie versteht Crouch „ein Gemeinwesen, in dem zwar nach wie vor Wahlen abgehalten werden, Wahlen, die sogar dazu führen, daß Regierungen ihren Abschied nehmen müssen, in dem allerdings konkurrierende Teams professioneller PR-Experten die öffentliche Debatte während der Wahlkämpfe so stark kontrollieren, daß sie zu einem reinen Spektakel verkommt, bei dem man nur über eine Reihe von Problemen diskutiert, die die Experten zuvor ausgewählt haben. Die Mehrheit der Bürger spielt dabei eine passive, schweigende, ja sogar apathische Rolle, sie reagieren nur auf die Signale die man ihnen gibt. Im Schatten dieser politischen Inszenierung wird die reale Politik hinter verschlossenen Türen gemacht: von gewählten Regierungen und Eliten, die vor allem die Interessen der Wirtschaft vertreten“ (S. 10). Man muss nicht mit allen Thesen Crouchs d’accord gehen, man muss noch nicht mal seinen Hauptaussagen zustimmen: auf jeden Fall ist das Buch eine interessante und bereichernde Lektüre, das zu Recht eine lebhafte politikwissenschaftliche Debatte ausgelöst hat.
