Kurz und knapp: das politische System der USA erklärt
Der Verlag Oxford University Press gibt seit Jahren eine großartige Reihe heraus: unter dem Motto „Very Short Introductions“ werden knappe Taschenbücher zu einer ganzen Reihe von Themen veröffentlicht (von Kunst und Architektur bis hin zur Mathematik, Philosophie oder halt Politik), deren Idee es ist, auf einer Seitenzahl von 120 oder 150 Seiten problemorientiert und systematisch das Wesentliche eines Themas zusammenzustellen. Zugleich dienen diese Bände als Einstieg in komplexe Gegenstände und laden zum Weiterlesen ein. Da wir im aktuellen Semester gleich mehrere Lehrveranstaltungen anbieten, in denen das politische System der Vereinigten Staaten und/oder der amerikanische Präsident im Fokus stehen, habe ich im Bücherregal zwei Bände aus der oben erwähnten Reihe (wieder)entdeckt, die als preisgünstige Ausgabe die wesentlichen Zahlen, Daten und Fakten eines jeden Themas zusammenfassen, einmal zum US-Kongress und ein zweites Mal zum amerikanischen Präsidenten. Verwandte Bücher aus dieser Reihe thematisieren etwa die Rolle politischer Parteien, die Natur von „American Politics“ oder die Reagan Revolution.
