Neuerscheinung: „Demokratie unter Schock“ von Martin Debes
Am 5. Februar 2020 kam es in Erfurt zu einer Zäsur: erstmals wurde mit Thomas Kemmerich (FDP) ein Kandidat mit Stimmen der AfD zum Ministerpräsidenten gewählt. Im dritten Wahlgang hatte die AfD-Fraktion nicht den eigenen Kandidaten, sondern Kemmerich gewählt – gemeinsam mit den Stimmen von CDU und FDP reichte es zu einer Mehrheit, Ministerpräsident Bodo Ramelow wurde eine weitere Amtszeit (vorläufig) versagt. Nach wenigen Tagen und einem Proteststurm, der weit über die Landesgrenzen Thüringens hinausreichte, trat Kemmerich zurück, im Anschluss traten die CDU-Spitzen in Thüringen, aber auch auf Bundesebene zurück, die Frage nach dem Umgang mit der AfD stand im Fokus der politischen Debatte(n). Wie aber konnte es zu diesem Ereignis kommen? Der Thüringer Journalist Martin Debes von der Funke-Mediengruppe, der u. a. auch für die ZEIT und den SPIEGEL schreibt, hat in seinem neuen Buch „Demokratie unter Schock“ die Ereignisse im Umfeld des 5. Februar 2020 minutiös rekonstruiert. Dabei greift er in seinen Schilderungen zeitlich weit zurück, um die Hintergründe der Ereignisse im vergangenen Jahr nachvollziehen zu können: „War die Wahl Kemmerichs ein Komplott von AfD, CDU und FDP, ein ‚von langer Hand‘ geplanter ‚Pakt mit dem Faschismus‘, wie es einige Linke, Sozialdemokraten und Grüne bis heute behaupten? Oder handelte es sich eher um einen ‚perfiden Trick‘ der AfD, auf den ahnungslose Christdemokraten und Liberale hereinfielen? So jedenfalls möchte es Thomas Kemmerich gerne betrachtet haben“, schreibt Debes im Prolog seines Buches auf S. 12. Und er fährt fort: „Es war komplizierter. Programme mischten sich mit Prinzipien, Ideale mit Ideologien, Ambitionen mit Ansprüchen. Hinzu kamen Dreistigkeit, Dickköpfigkeit und Dummheit – und der eine oder andere Zufall. Gleichzeitig lassen sich die Geschehnisse nicht ohne die handelnden Personen und deren Vorgeschichte erklären. Denn dies ist eine Fortsetzungsserie, mit mindestens zwei Prequels, die in den Jahren 2009 und 2014 spielten. Das Sequel dürfte nach der kommenden Landtagswahl folgen“ (ebd.).
Debes stützt sich in seinem Buch auf zahlreiche Gespräche mit den beteiligten Protagonisten, zitiert private Textnachrichten, greift auf interne Protokolle zurück und beleuchtet das mediale wie politische Echo der Ereignisse in Thüringen. Herausgekommen ist ein Buch, das sich stellenweise wie ein Krimi liest. Auch heute ist die Thüringer Regierungskrise augenscheinlich (noch) nicht überwunden, denn mit der jüngsten Verschiebung der damals vereinbarten Neuwahl des Landtages, die ursprünglich für den Tag der Bundestagswahl am 26. September 2021 geplant war, bleibt das Thema auf der politischen Tagesordnung.
