Zwei lesenswerte Neuerscheinungen zur Politik der Biden-Administration
Soeben sind zwei aktuelle Bücher rund um die Administration von US-Präsident Joe Biden erschienen. In „The Fight of his Life“ beleuchtet Chris Whipple basierend auf zahlreichen Gesprächen innerhalb wie außerhalb des Weißen Hauses die zentralen politischen Prioritäten des 46. Präsidenten der USA. Dazu zählen diverse Gesetzespakete wie der „American Rescue Plan“ oder die Initiative „Build Back Better“. Darüber hinaus geht es um den Abzug aus Afghanistan, den Ukraine-Krieg, die internationale Klimapolitik, die Bekämpfung der Corona-Pandemie und den Umgang mit wirtschaftlichen Herausforderungen wie der Inflation und den hohen Energiepreisen. Whipple lässt in seinen Ausführungen die internen Entscheidungsprozesse hinter den Kulissen lebendig werden und beleuchtet in Rückblicken auch den Wahlkampf und die Wahl von 2020 sowie zentrale biografische Wegmarken Bidens.
Das zweite Buch von Stephen J. Wayne („The Biden Presidency“) ist systematischer strukturiert und greift verstärkt politikwissenschaftliche Zugänge zum Thema auf. Dazu gehören eine Analyse des Führungsstils Bidens, die (Re-)Organisation der exekutiven Strukturen, sein Interagieren mit dem Kongress, zentrale Bestimmungsfaktoren ausgewählter Politikfelder sowie die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen präsidentieller Kommunikation.
