Neuer Zeitschriftenartikel: Ausschlüsse aus dem US-Kongress
In der vergangenen Woche wurde der Republikanische Abgeordnete George Santos (New York) per Mehrheitsentscheid aus dem US-Repräsentantenhaus ausgeschlossen. Bereits während des Wahlkampfes im Herbst 2022 gab es massive Vorwürfe gegen ihn. So soll er zahlreiche falsche Behauptungen zu seinem Lebenslauf, seiner Religion und seiner Familiengeschichte aufgestellt haben. Mittlerweile ist er in 23 Punkten angeklagt worden, ein Rauswurf war in einem ersten Verfahren Anfang November 2023 gescheitert. Santos war erst das 21. Kongressmitglied, das aus dem Parlament ausgeschlossen wurde, die meisten Ausschlüsse erfolgten während des Bürgerkrieges. Insgesamt handelt es sich dabei um ein Thema, das bislang nicht wirklich eine breite Aufmerksamkeit gefunden hat. In einem aktuellen Artikel für die Zeitschrift für Parteienwissenschaften des Instituts für Deutsches und Internationales Parteienrecht und Parteienforschung (PRUF) der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf sind einige Hintergründe zum Thema zusammengetragen worden. Nachzulesen ist der Beitrag hier. Am 13. Februar 2024 wird übrigens in einer Nachwahl die Nachfolge von Santos bestimmt.
