Vor den Vorwahlen in den USA
In der kommenden Woche beginnt in den Vereinigten Staaten die Vorwahlsaison. Während die Demokraten in Iowa, traditionell der erste Staat in diesem Prozess, ihren Kandidaten per Briefwahl bestimmen lassen (das Ergebnis wird dann Anfang März bekanntgegeben), findet der Caucus, eine Art Parteiversammlung, der Republikanischen Partei am 15. Januar 2024 statt. Es folgt New Hampshire am 23. Januar. Am so genannten „Super Tuesday“ am 5. März 2024 finden Vorwahlen in mehr als einem Dutzend Bundesstaaten statt, danach stehen die Kandidaten für die Präsidentschaftskandidatur häufig bereits fest. Im August folgen die Nominierungsparteitage, am 5. November ist der Wahltag, an dem ein neuer Präsident, das gesamte Repräsentantenhaus sowie ein Drittel der Senatsmitglieder und eine Reihe von Gouverneuren gewählt werden.
