Der Gouvernator tritt ab
Am gestrigen Dienstag war der letzte Arbeitstag des Gouvernators von Kalifornien, Republikaner Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sein Nachfolger Jerry Brown von den Demokraten hatte dieses Amt übrigens schon einmal inne, nämlich von 1975 bis 1983. Damals war er der jüngste Gouverneur Kaliforniens, mit seinem gestrigen Amtsantritt ist er nun der älteste Gouverneur, den die Landeshauptstadt Sacramento bisher erlebt hat. Es schließt sich also ein Kreis… Bei der Wahl im November 2010 konnte sich Brown gegen Meg Whitman, die frühere Vorstandschefin von eBay, durchsetzen, die für die Republikaner angetreten war.
Mit vielen Vorschusslorbeeren gestartet, ist Schwarzenegger zwischenzeitlich für Höheres gehandelt worden. So wollten Anhänger die US-Verfassung ändern lassen, damit Arnie für das Präsidentenamt kandidieren könnte (er ist von Geburt aus Österreicher, und um Präsident werden zu können, muss man in den USA geboren sein).
Wie fällt nun die Bilanz des Gouvernators aus? Die Umfragewerte sind in den Keller gestürzt, die Staatsverschuldung Kaliforniens ist doppelt so hoch wie bei seinem Amtsantritt. In der Umweltpolitik konnte er immerhin Akzente setzen. Und wie fällt seine Regierungsbilanz sonst aus?
