Lektüren: „Geschichte des Irakkriegs“
Heute erscheint offiziell der zweite Memoirenband von Ex-Außenminister Joschka Fischer („I am not convinced“, Kiepenheuer und Witsch), gestern hat er sein Buch in Berlin offiziell vorgestellt. Bereits in der letzten Woche hat der frühere US-Verteidigungsminister Donald Rumsfeld seine Autobiografie vorgestellt. Einer der Schwerpunkte beider Bände ist der jüngste Irakkrieg. Für Leser, die sich nicht durch diese Wälzer lesen wollen, sondern ein kompaktes, gut verständliches und zudem aktuelles Werk zum Irakkrieg suchen, sei der Band von Stephan Bierling, einem Politologen der Universität Regensburg, empfohlen. Publiziert hat er sein Werk in der beck’schen Reihe des C.H. Beck Verlages, in der er bereits eine „Geschichte der amerikanischen Außenpolitik“ sowie eine „Kleine Geschichte Kaliforniens“ vorgelegt hat.
Ausführlich beschreibt Bierling die Vorgeschichte des Konflikts. Besonderes Augenmerk legt er auf den inneramerikanischen Entscheidungsprozess sowie die bi- und multilaterale Abstimmung mit anderen Staaten. Auch die Rolle Deutschlands unter Bundeskanzler Schröder und Außenminister Fischer kommt nicht zu kurz. Detailliert beschreibt Bierling die Nachkriegssituation im Irak und beleuchtet die mehrfachen Wechsel in der amerikanischen Strategie. Das Buch endet mit den neuen Ansätzen unter Präsident Obama. Jederzeit gut lesbar und im Urteil stets abwägend, aber doch pointiert und nachvollziehbar, ist Bierling ein außerordentlich gutes Buch zum Irakkrieg gelungen, das hoffentlich viele Leser findet.
