Blick nach Sachsen: OB-Wahl in Leipzig
In der Messemetropole Leipzig findet heute die zweite Runde für die Wahl des neuen Oberbürgermeisters statt. Oberbürgermeister wird, wer dabei die meisten gültigen Stimmen auf sich vereinen kann. Amtsinhaber Burkhard Jung (SPD) muss sich dabei gegen seinen Herausforderer Sebastian Gemkow (CDU), derzeit sächsischer Wissenschaftsminister, behaupten. In jüngsten Umfragen lagen beide Kandidaten nahezu Kopf an Kopf. Das Kandidierendenfeld komplettiert Ute Elisabeth Gabelmann von der Piratenpartei, die (vermutlich) keine Siegeschanchen haben wird. Alle anderen Kandidaten aus dem ersten Wahlgang haben ihre Kandidatur zurückgezogen (in Leipzig handelt es sich um einen zweiten Wahlgang, keine Stichwahl, von daher hätten alle Kandidierenden aus dem ersten Wahlgang erneut antreten können). Da eine Reihe von Studierenden bei uns am Institut für Politikwissenschaft der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) in Leipzig wohnt (oder von dort stammt), und einige Studierende sich aktiv in die jeweiligen Wahlkampagnen eingebracht haben, wird das heutige Ergebnis sicherlich mit Spannung erwartet – nicht zuletzt, da die Stadt Leipzig („Hypezig“) zuletzt in Medien wie der New York Times oder der TAZ als „cool kid town“ oder das „neue Berlin“ betitel wurde. Der Berliner Tagesspiegel fasst einige Szenen aus dem Wahlkampf in einer ausführlichen Reportage hier zusammen. Ergebnisse gibt es dann heute abend hier (und natürlich in den sozialen Medien).
Update, 2. März 2020: Burkhard Jung hat sich knapp gegen Sebastian Gemkow durchsetzen können, wie hier nachzulesen ist.
