Barack Obama: „A Promised Land“
Am vergangenen Dienstag ist in 25 Sprachen gleichzeitig der erste Band der Autobiografie des früheren US-Präsidenten Barack Obama erschienen. In „A Promised Land“ (zu deutsch: „Ein verheißenes Land“) berichtet Obama von seinen wichtigsten Lebensstationen, von seiner politischen Karriere, vom Wahlkampf 2008 und den ersten Jahren im Weißen Haus (bis 2011). Das vor zwei Jahren erschienene Buch „Becoming“ seiner Frau hat sich inzwischen acht Millionen Mal verkauft, die Startauflage des Buchs von Barack Obama (mit immerhin 800 Seiten) liegt bei drei Millionen (davon 300.000 in Deutschland), es düfte aber rasch nachgedruckt werden müssen, waren doch alle bisherigen Bücher Obamas Bestseller. Der SPIEGEL hat am Wochenende einen Ausdruck publiziert, ebenso Die ZEIT (leider nicht frei online). Der Berliner Tagesspiegel hat die Hintergründe zum Buch, eine Rezension des Buches findet sich in der New York Times.
In einem aktuellen Gespräch mit der Zeitschrift The Atlantic diskutiert Obama die großen Herausforderungen unserer Zeit, insbesondere mit Blick auf den Zustand der amerikanischen Demokratie nach vier Jahren Donald Trump.
