Lektüretipp: „Kamala’s Way“ über US-Vizepräsidentin Kamala Harris
Zur Amtseinführung des 46. amerikanischen Präsidenten Joe Biden und seiner Vizepräsidentin Kamala Harris ist in den vergangenen Tagen vieles gesendet und geschrieben worden (an dieser Stelle sei insbesondere auf die umfassende und großartige Berichterstattung der New York Times sowie der Washington Post verwiesen). Ein einziger Lektüretipp sei mir an dieser Stelle gestattet, nämlich der Hinweis auf eine jüngst erschienene Biographie von Kamala Harris. Geschrieben wurde sie vom Journalisten Daniel Morain, der Harris als Mitarbeiter der Los Angeles Times bislang über zwei Jahrzehnte begleitet hat. So beschreibt er etwa, was es bedeutet, als Tochter einer Inderin und eines Jamaikaners im Kalifornien der 60er und 70er Jahre aufzuwachsen; zur Sprache kommen darüber hinaus ihre früheren politischen Ämter, wie etwa das der Justizministerin von Kalifornien und natürlich ihre Zeit im US-Senat, bevor sie sich in den Jahren 2019 und 2020 um die Präsidentschaftskandidatur der Demokratischen Partei bemühte. Das Buch gibt es inzwischen als deutschsprachige Ausgabe, das englischsprachige Original ist preislich etwas günstiger. Entstanden ist ein höchst lesenswertes Buch über eine Politikerin, die mit der Übernahme des Vizepräsidentenamtes Geschichte geschrieben hat und deren Karriere mit dieser Position sicherlich noch nicht ihren Höhepunkt erreicht haben dürfte.
