Angela Merkel auf den Spuren Adenauers
Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel kommt heute eine seltene Ehre zuteil: sie wird vor beiden Kammern des Kongresses eine Rede halten.
Dies war zuvor nur einem anderen Bundeskanzler (und vier Bundespräsidenten) möglich: Konrad Adenauer im Mai 1957, allerdings sprach er damals „nur“ vor dem Repräsentantenhaus. Die Rede, die Frau Merkel auf deutsch, nicht auf englisch halten wird, soll gegen 16:30h deutscher Zeit beginnen. Die ARD überträgt ab 16:10h live, das ZDF ab 16:15h. N24 berichtet ab 16:30h, n-tv ab 16h.
Die Aufmerksamkeit der politischen Welt in Washington gilt heute jedoch nicht uneingeschränkt der Hauptstadt: in Virginia und New Jersey finden am gleichen Tag Gouverneurswahlen statt, bei denen die Republikaner favoritisiert sind. Auch der persönliche Einsatz Obamas für die Demokratischen Kandidaten hat ihnen bislang nicht nutzen können.

Warum hat die Kanzlerin eigentlich nicht auf Englisch gesprochen? Hat man Angst, sie könnte sich falsch ausdrücken oder ist es so Gang und Gebe? Wie wird die Rede den Abgeordneten dann übersetzt – mit Übersetzer im Ohr?!
Die Rede wurde den Abgeordneten, Senatoren, Botschaftern und Kabinettsmitgliedern in der Tat per Kopfhörer übersetzt. Im Fernsehen konnte man wunderbar beobachten, wie Vizepräsident Joe Biden und andere ständig an ihrem Kopfhörer herumnestelten…
Dann sieht man das typische Bild bei Simultanübersetzungen: Wird ein Witz gemacht, lachen die Zuhörer erst fünf Sekunden später 😉
So war’s. Bei jedem Highlight der Rede musste Frau Merkel innehalten und darauf warten, ob bzw. wann die zuhörer zu applaudieren gedachten…
