Wer ist Jim Traficant?
Dieser Mann ist anders – das erkennt man auf den ersten Blick. Jim Traficant war lange Zeit Abgeordneter im US-Repräsentantenhaus, momentan saß er die letzten Jahre eine mehrjährige Haftstrafe ab. Erst 2009 wurde er entlassen, prompt kandidierte Traficant im November 2010 als Unabhängiger für seinen alten Kongresssitz, unterlag aber.
Im politischen System der Bundesrepublik Deutschland hätte Traficant keine Chance, keine politische Partei mit halbwegs guten Erfolgsaussichten würde ihn auf ihre Parteiliste setzen. Aber in den USA dominiert die Kandidatenorientierung, nicht die Parteiorientierung und so konnte Traficant von 1984 bis 2002 nach Kongresswahlen ein ums andere Mal nach Washington zurückkehren und seine Arbeit fortsetzen.
