Nancy Brandt, a director from Halle, visited Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in November 2015 with her film „Die Gewählten“ („The Elected“). To those who missed the film then, I would highly recommend seizing the opportunity this time around. The film is scheduled to be shown at the Luchs Cinema in Halle in March 2016, specifically on Saturday, March 5th at 4 PM, Sunday, March 6th at 3:45 PM (with an audience discussion), and on Saturday, March 12th at 4:45 PM.
About the film:
In 2009, five young individuals from various political parties begin their first term in the German Bundestag: a physicist from Leipzig (SPD), a pianist from Ingolstadt (B90/The Greens), an architect from Forchheim (FDP), a lawyer from Ludwigsburg (CDU), and a jurist from Oberhausen (Die Linke). Daniela Kolbe aspires to make the world a fairer place, while Agnes Krumwiede advocates for a greater appreciation of culture in society. Sebastian Körber is committed to making his constituency’s train station barrier-free, and Steffen Bilger aims to become the district chairman of the CDU North Württemberg. Niema Movassat prioritizes extraparliamentary work. Despite their diverse approaches to the parliamentary system and their respective parties, all five share a common challenge: they have four years to prove to themselves and others that they can make a difference in politics. And the ultimate question for all is: Will they be re-elected? „Die Gewählten“ follows the five protagonists throughout their entire legislative period, sharing in their personal triumphs and setbacks and investigating whether their work in the Bundestag will have a lasting professional and personal impact. Can they actually make a difference and implement their ideas? It’s a long-term observation of five very distinct young people on their journey into major politics.
