„Postdemokratie“ revisited
Im Jahre 2008 veröffentlichte der britische Politikwissenschaftler Colin Crouch die deutschsprachige Ausgabe seines Buches „Postdemokratie“ (ursprünglich 2004) und prägte mit dem Titel dieses Werkes einen Begriff, der sich in den Folgejahren zu einem geflügelten Wort entwickeln sollte. Unter einer „Postdemokratie“ verstand Crouch „ein Gemeinwesen, in dem zwar nach wie vor Wahlen abgehalten werden […], in dem allerdings konkurrierende Teams professioneller PR-Experten die öffentliche Debatte während der Wahlkämpfe so stark kontrollieren, daß sie zu einem reinen Spektakel verkommt, bei dem man nur über eine Reihe von Problemen diskutiert, die die Experten zuvor ausgewählt haben“. Ein knappes Jahrzehnt später hat Crouch seine Thesen einer Überprüfung unterzogen. Das Ergebnis dieses Prozesses heißt „Postdemokratie revisited“ und erscheint am 19. April 2021 im Suhrkamp Verlag.
