Karl Dietrich Bracher gestorben
Im Alter von 94 Jahren ist vorgestern der Zeitgeschichtler Karl Dietrich Bracher gestorben. Über Jahrzehnte hat er als „Pionier der Politikwissenschaft“ (DeutschlandRadio Kultur) die moderne Zeitgeschichtsforschung mitgeprägt, mit seiner 1955 erschienenen Habilitation „Die Auflösung der Weimarer Republik“ hatte er gleich zu Beginn seiner wissenschaftlichen Karriere ein epochemachendes Werk vorgelegt.
Bracher lehrte zunächst an der Freien Universität in Berlin und war dann fast dreißig Jahre lang, nämlich von 1959 bis 1987, Ordinarius für Wissenschaft von der Politik und Zeitgeschichte an der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. Dort hat er in dieser Zeit das politikwissenschaftliche Institut der Universität nicht nur mit aufgebaut, sondern auch über viele Jahre maßgeblich geprägt, die Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) nennt ihn in einem Nachruf den „Lehrer der Bonner Republik“. Er blieb zwar stets parteilos, stand jedoch jederzeit als Berater für politisch unterschiedlich geprägte Bundesregierungen zur Verfügung. Zu seinen Schülern gehören unter anderem so bekannte Politikwissenschaftler wie Ulrich von Alemann, Erhard Forndran, Karl Kaiser, Karlheinz Niclauß und Hans Vorländer. Karl Dietrich Bracher, a leading historian of the Nazi regime and totalitarian movements, died on September 19, 2016, at the age of 94, in Bonn, Germany. He was a world-renowned historian of the Nazi regime, as well as the dictatorship and democracy in modern Europe.
