Zusammen ergeben die Schilderungen dieser Biographien aus den Jahren 2013 bis 2019 „Nahaufnahmen einer verunsicherten Nation“. Das Buch der preisgekrönten Simon (u. a. Theodor-Wolff-Preis, Axel-Springer-Preis und Deutscher Reporterpreis) bezeichnete Harry Nutt in der Frankfurter Rundschau als „Gesellschaftsbild mit sorgsam ausgearbeiteten Farbsetzungen und Kontrasten, das weit über die bloße Momentaufnahme einer Zeitungsreportage hinausgeht“. Der Titel des Buches weist darauf hin, dass einige der Protagonisten durchaus Druck ausüben, dass die meisten von ihnen aber Druck von außen ausgesetzt sind und versuchen (müssen), damit irgendwie klarzukommen.
