Summer School 2020 der Atlantischen Akademie Rheinland-Pfalz
Auch in diesem Jahr veranstaltet die Atlantische Akademie Rheinland-Pfalz e. V. eine Summer School zu Grundlagen und aktuellen Herausforderungen amerikanischer Politik. Diese Summer School findet angesichts der Corona-Pandemie 2020 als On-Demand-Webinar statt. Im Zeitraum zwischen dem 27. Juli und dem 27. September 2020 werden für die Teilnehmer*innen jede Woche zwei Vorträge auf einer entsprechenden Webinar-Plattform zum Abruf bereitstehen.
Eine Pandemie mit mehr als 100.000 Toten, die schwerste Wirtschaftskrise seit der Great Depression in den 1930er Jahren und landesweite Proteste gegen Diskriminierung und Polizeigewalt – im Wahljahr 2020 befinden sich die USA im Ausnahmezustand. Die Krisen dominieren den Wahlkampf, und es ist mehr als deutlich, dass am 3. November 2020 eine Richtungsentscheidung ansteht: Gibt es eine weitere Amtszeit für Donald Trump oder wird Joe Biden neuer Präsident? Und welche Mehrheiten ergeben sich im Kongress?
Vor diesem Hintergrund bietet die Summer School 2020 differenzierte Einblicke in Amerikas Politik und Gesellschaft. Neben Themen, die derzeit besonders kontrovers diskutiert werden – etwa die Situation am Arbeitsmarkt, die Gesundheitskrise und die Black Lives Matter-Bewegung – sollen auch die längerfristigen Trends und Entwicklungen in den Blick genommen werden. Dazu zählen zum Beispiel die parteipolitische Polarisierung, die sich quer durch die Politikfelder zieht, die Auseinandersetzung zwischen Kongress und Präsident um Macht und Einfluss und die Frage, wie sich bestimmte politische Prozesse, Normen und Traditionen in der Amtszeit von Donald Trump verändert haben.
