„The Road to War“: eine Rekonstruktion der Vorgeschichte des Krieges gegen die Ukraine
Die Washington Post hat heute einen sehr umfangreichen Artikel veröffentlicht, der sich auf mehr als drei Dutzend Interviews mit Gesprächspartnern aus Politik und Militär in den Vereinigten Staaten, in diversen europäischen Ländern sowie in der Ukraine stützt und die Vorgeschichte des russischen Angriffs auf die Ukraine im Detail rekapituliert. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei interne Diskussions- und Entscheidungsprozesse der Biden-Administration wie auch interne Prozesse der NATO, bei der mehrere Mitglieder nach den gescheiterten Einsätzen in Afghanistan und im Irak sowie nach vier Jahren Donald Trump im Amt des amerikanischen Präsidenten eine amerikanische Führungsrolle sehr skeptisch beäugten. Berücksichtigung findet auch das oftmals schwierige Verhältnis der Intelligence Community und den politischen Entscheidern in Washington.
Der Bericht stützt sich einerseits auf zahllose Artikel, die bereits in den vergangenen Wochen und Monaten in der Washington Post veröffentlicht worden sind, andererseits sind viele Aspekte und Gesprächsausschnitte mit den erwähnten Gesprächspartnern bislang (noch) nicht öffentlich bekannt waren.
