Soeben frisch erschienen ist ein Lexikon der politischen Begriffe rund um die Vereinigten Staaten. Verfasst hat es mit Stefan A. Sengl ein österreichischer Kommunikationsberater, der sich seit vielen Jahren mit Präsidentschaftswahlen in den USA, aber auch in Österreich befasst.
Das Büchlein lädt mit 168 kleinformatigen Seiten zum Blättern und Stöbern ein, viele Einträge sind nur wenige Zeilen lang. Die ausführlichsten Beiträge befassen sich mit den diversen Präsidenten und anderen politischen Akteuren. Sehr knapp ausgefallen sind etwa die Beiträge zum Kongress (der Eintrag „Senat“ kommt auf gerade einmal elf Zeilen) und zu den politischen Parteien; bzgl. des Obersten Gerichtshofes wird ausschließlich dessen Abkürzung SCOTUS („Supreme Court of the United States“) aufgeschlüsselt. Aber es finden sich viele andere Begriffe, die in den Lehr- und Einführungsbüchern zum politischen System der Vereinigten Staaten nur am Rande vorkommen oder gar nicht berücksichtigt werden – wie etwa „gerrymandering“, „push polling“, „House of Cards“ oder etwa der „McCain-Feingold Act“ zur Reform der Wahlkampffinanzierung. Entstanden ist so ein kurzweiliger Band, der viele politische Aspekte der Vereinigten Staaten in einem anderen, neuen Licht erscheinen lässt.
Fun fact zum Schluss: für den Buchstaben „Z“ finden sich keine Einträge, während „X“ („X, Malcolm“) und „Y“ („Yellow Dog Democrats“) vertreten sind. Nähere Informationen zum Buch sind hier zu finden.
